Well, it’s been a long time in the making, but this song has finally risen from the ashes =P
This used to be just me and the guitar, but I was fortunate enough to collaborate with The Butcher who took it to the next level. (Also gotta give a shout out to Malt for his work on the drums!). We really plugged away at this over a few months and now, in that bittersweet moment, it’s time to let another one fly the coop.
I don’t know that I want to get into the whole backstory to the song right now. But what I will say is that music is such a great way to express and heal oneself.
Hope you’re all doing well and feeling optimistic that spring is around the corner!!
What’s your outlet for expressing your emotions and experiences?
Hey everyone! How goes the winter? We’ve been getting some weird weather over here — ice storms, then mild days, then snowfalls. I’ve been hibernating at home a lot so I get to watch most of it from my window =P
I just wanted to share a couple of new songs with you guys, and to also ask how your 2014 is shaping up so far. Any New Years Resolutions for anyone? Has it been a slow start? Hectic at work coming back from the holidays? Don’t forget to make some R&R time for yourselves — we all need it!!

Lyrics: Alan Gentle
Music/Vocals/Guitar: Janice Ho
This song was for a Collaboration Contest on the songwriting forum I’m on. Lyricists and musicians got paired up into teams and then had to choose from a list of cities to write a song about. “Havana” was a big musical challenge for me because I knew I’d have to step out of my usual comfort zone (i.e. writing slow, doom-and-gloom songs lol) and also improve my guitar playing. After several weeks of developing this song and collaborating with Len, I’m really happy with just how much I learned and challenged myself. That’s what it’s all about! :)

“Chastity (Game of Chances)”
Lyrics: Jonie Sutherland
Music/Vocals: Janice Ho
Guitar: Sam Dixon
“Chastity (Game of Chances)” came out of a Creative Challenge on the songwriting forum. This was a really fun one where musicians had to each write their own song using the same lyric. Jonie is a super talented lyricist who gave us “Chastity” to work with. It was really interesting to hear everyone’s different musical interpretations of it and this has turned out to be one of my favourite songs to sing :)
Or you can watch the video ;)
I hope everyone else is feeling inspired in their own creative/personal endeavours!
